In Memory of Wilbur Reid Jr.

Wilbur-Reid.jpgIt is with sadness that we report to you that Wilbur Reid Jr. passed away on February 27, 2013. Please keep Linda, their two sons, Wilbur III and David, and the rest of the family in your prayers.

In recent years Wilbur suffered from primary progressive aphasia, which initially limited his ability to communicate and later impacted him physically. It is most appropriate that Wilbur passed away during Johnson’s Homecoming. For decades he played a key role in planning and promoting this alumni event.

Wilbur graduated from Johnson in 1962. He and Linda were married in 1963 and served in church ministry before being invited back to Johnson by President David Eubanks in 1970. Wilbur was the first person at Johnson to dedicate full-time energies to student recruitment and public relations. Wilbur and Linda also played an important role in starting and developing Johnson’s Senior Saints in the Smokies program.

Upon learning of Wilbur's death, one person remarked, “There are others who have loved Johnson as much, but no one loved Johnson more than Wilbur Reid.”

Notes of condolence may be sent to Linda at 7900 Johnson Drive, Knoxville, TN 37920.

The family requests memorial gifts be given to either the Wilbur and Linda Reid Scholarship Fund at Johnson University or Woodlawn Christian Church's Building Fund.
