This summer, Johnson University will open its new “Commons” dining hall featuring a full kitchen with buffet-style meals, a dining room, and a café. This will be the first time in the University’s history that an on-site dining hall with a meal plan will be offered to students, and JUFL is pleased to announce its staff will self-manage the new facility.
The Commons is expected to be completed in July with food service commencing for the fall semester for students, employees, and guests. Students will have an option for meal plans that include 9, 13, or 17 meals each week.
Bob Mehlenbacher will serve as Food Service Manager and Norma Thompson as Assistant Manager. Tim Lytle, a local restaurant franchisee with strong ties to the University, is serving as a professional consultant who will monitor and advise the team regarding personnel training, certification, equipment use, and general operations.
“We will be offering a wide selection of diverse menu choices for students and friends of the University to enjoy,” Mehlenbacher said. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to share my passion for good food with my family here at Johnson University. We are excited to bring a great community atmosphere to the Commons."
